The David Thompson Tourism Development Zone (TDZ) has the potential to rival Jasper National Park as a tourism destination. The David Thompson’s prime location represents a valuable, but unrealized opportunity to provide Canadian and international visitors with the services and amenities they demand, and showcase Alberta’s natural beauty.David Thompson TDZ Discovery Report (2023)
For 50+ years, tourism development in the Nordegg & Abraham Lake region consisted of a new study every few years telling us that the region has a lot of potential and a long list of action items to get there.
This led to boom and bust cycles as government support came and went. And to a lot of false starts…
It’s not easy to build a tourism business when we have little control over the things that have a large impact on our guests’ experience, like infrastructure on public lands or the development of Nordegg.
That’s why we chose to do things differently.
We created Explore Nordegg & Abraham Lake, a not-for-profit corporation owned and operated by Nordegg Adventures, to provide a platform where we can work with industry and community partners on selected projects that directly impact our industry and the visitor experience.
Our goal is to grow our region as Alberta’s premier Canadian Rockies adventure tourism destination for curious adventurers and Nordeggians by 2035.
